What you will learn?
Take your laser skills into tattoo removal
Build on your Level 4 laser training with a specialist qualification in removing or fading tattoos. At Ray Cochrane Beauty Aesthetics Academy, you will connect laser theory with supervised practice: assessing clients and tattoos, planning treatments, working with Q-switched laser equipment and explaining aftercare.
This course focuses on laser tattoo removal and fading. It does not include permanent makeup (PMU) removal or carbon facials.
Hands-on training in a group of four
You will train in a group of four learners, with models supplied by the academy. Every learner practises laser tattoo removal under tutor supervision, developing practical skills alongside consultation, treatment planning and aftercare.
Your academy training starts with a two-to-three-hour refresher on Monday morning. We revisit health and safety, consultation and laser theory in a clinical setting, connecting your online learning to the equipment and treatment environment. Supervised practical training begins after the refresher and continues through Thursday.
The practical teaching covers tattoos with different ink colours, including how colour affects treatment planning and expectations. This is not a promise that every ink colour can be completely removed.
Train with the Alma Harmony XL PRO
You will use the Alma Harmony XL PRO with its Q-switched Nd:YAG applicator for supervised laser tattoo removal training. The focus is on understanding the equipment in the context of client assessment, treatment planning, safety and aftercare.
What you will learn
The course covers four units:
- Principles and practice of non-medical aesthetic therapies: the professional and safety foundations supporting aesthetic treatments.
- Advanced consultation for non-medical aesthetic therapies: assessing clients, discussing suitability and setting expectations.
- Advanced skin care for non-medical aesthetic therapies: developing the skin knowledge that supports consultation and treatment decisions.
- Remove or fade tattoos using Q-switched laser systems: applying tattoo assessment, treatment planning and practical laser skills.
Assessment includes assignments, clinical case studies, an external theory examination and an external practical examination. All required components must be passed to achieve the qualification.

What qualifications do I need to join the Level 5 Laser Tattoo Removal course?
You must be aged 18 or over and hold an accepted Level 4 qualification in Laser Hair Removal or Laser and IPL. If your qualification has a different title, send admissions a copy of your certificate before booking so we can check the units.
Can a complete beginner enrol on this Level 5 course?No. This is an advanced qualification for trained laser practitioners. If you do not yet hold Level 4 Laser and IPL, speak to admissions about the qualifications you need before applying. How long is the course and how is it delivered?The course uses blended learning: online theory plus five consecutive days at our London academy, including practical training, supervised practice and a practical examination. Academy attendance is Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 5 pm.
Where does the practical training take place?The practical training and assessments take place at Ray Cochrane Beauty Aesthetics Academy, 75 Baker Street, London W1U 6RE.
What will I learn on the laser tattoo removal course?The course covers four VTCT (ITEC) units: principles and practice of non-medical aesthetic therapies, advanced consultation, advanced skin care, and removing or fading tattoos using Q-switched laser systems. Is the VTCT (ITEC) Level 5 qualification regulated?Yes. The VTCT Skills (ITEC) Level 5 Certificate in Laser Tattoo Removal is a regulated Level 5 occupational qualification. The qualification number is 603/2907/5.
How much does the course cost and what is included?The standard course fee is £2,450 including VTCT registration, examination and assessment fees, your logbook, learning pack and uniform. A £75 discount reduces the fee to £2,375 when you pay in full more than 10 days before the course starts.
Can I pay for the course in instalments?Yes. You can pay a £750 deposit and the remaining £1,700 seven days before the course starts. Ten-month interest-free finance may also be available, subject to a credit check, eligibility and status.
What is the class size?Training takes place in a group of four learners. Every learner practises on academy-supplied models under tutor supervision.
Which laser will I train with?You will train with the Alma Harmony XL PRO using its Q-switched Nd:YAG applicator for laser tattoo removal.

Begin your online learning

Train in a group of four using the Alma Harmony XL PRO. Following Monday morning's theory refresher, you will practise laser tattoo removal on academy-supplied models under tutor supervision from Monday to Thursday.
